About Reflexology
Importance & Benefits
Reflexology is a complementary healing technique that has existed throughout history. The first evidence of this healing art dates back to 2300 B.C. in Egyptian drawings. It has since been practiced in every healing tradition in the world and is being increasingly incorporated as a complementary modality in many healing settings.
Reflexology is based on the theory that there are reflex areas on the hands and feet that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. Stimulating these reflexes has one or more of the following effects on the corresponding area:
By doing so, Reflexology offers a holistic approach to addressing a wide range of physical and emotional concerns, from chronic pain to sleep disorders. By stimulating reflex points on the hands and feet, reflexologists can help restore balance and harmony within the body, promoting relaxation, alleviating discomfort, and supporting overall well-being. Whether you're seeking relief from foot pain, back pain, arthritis, or migraines or want to increase foot flexibility and promote better circulation, Reflexology offers a gentle and effective path to healing, helping you regain your health and vtality.
Speciality Areas
Foot Health
Reflexology offers a holistic approach to improving foot health. It improves nerve flow, circulatory flow, and energy flow to all parts of the foot. It therefore has been shown to help improve foot pain, neuralgia, plantar fasciitis, bunions and swelling.
Plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel pain, results from inflammation of the plantar fascia—a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. Reflexology can provide relief by focusing on reflex points corresponding to the feet and heel area. By applying gentle pressure to these points, reflexologists can help alleviate tension, reduce inflammation, and improve flexibility in the plantar fascia, relieving pain and discomfort associated with plantar fasciitis.
Pain Management
Reflexology is safe and non-invasive holistic therapy for pain management. It has been shown to be effective for arthritis, back pain, migraines, foot pain including gout and plantar fasciitis, and fibromyalgia. Reflexology offers relief by targeting reflex points associated with the location of the pain as well as stimulating the nervous system and circulatory systems. It also increases the production of endorphins that reduce pain and increase a sense of well-being.
Through its healing effect on the nervous system, Reflexology has been shown to help with neuralgia, numbness, and tingling in the feet, and neuropathy associated with diabetes and chemotherapy treatments. It has also been show to help with chronic pain and autoimmune conditions like fibromyalgia.
Hormonal balance
Reflexology helps bring balance to the body’s hormonal systems - adrenals for cortisol management, thyroid for metabolic health, pancreas for blood sugar balance, ovaries/testes for sex hormones, and the pituitary/pineal gland for overall health and well-being.
By stimulating specific points linked to the endocrine system, ovaries, and uterus, Reflexology can help regulate the production and release of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and oxytocin. These hormones play a crucial role in regulating the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and overall reproductive health. Studies show the effectiveness of Reflexology in reducing symptoms of PMS, menopause and pregnancy.
Anxiety & Insomnia
One of the most effective applications of Reflexology is to calm the nervous system. Since 75% of all illnesses are linked to stress, Reflexology can help with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and sleep problems. It can also help with digestive problems, headaches, high blood pressure, muscle tension and pain, and blood sugar imbalances.
Increasing number of studies show that Reflexology is an effective non-pharmacology intervention for depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. In one study, foot reflexology reduced pain, anxiety, and fatigue and improved sleep quality in pregnant women. In another study, applying foot reflexology to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery reduced pain, anxiety, and fatigue and improved sleep quality.
