About Acupuncture

How It Works

Acupuncture is a 4000 year old Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. These acu-points are located along 14 energy meridians that circulate energy or vitality or Qi through the related organs and parts of the body. By inserting needles and applying other TCM techniques (Guasha, Moxibustion and Cupping), acupuncture aims to unblock and restore the flow of energy through the imbalanced meridians/organs thereby stimulating healing and reducing symptoms.

Benefits

Since acupuncture promotes the body’s natural healing ability, most conditions can be corrected or improved with acupuncture treatments. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive system of preventative health care and health maintenance. The effectiveness of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is well documented. The World Health Organization lists the following as just some of the ailments which are successfully treated with Acupuncture:

Speciality Areas

Pain Mangement

Acupuncture is most commonly used for pain management, especially for chronic conditions. Acupuncture has been demonstrated to enhance the body’s production of opiates and release corticosteroids to relieve pain naturally. Studies validate the effectiveness of treating low back pain, migraines, fibromyalgia, neck pain, and abdominal pain. In our Clinic, we also see improvements with foot pain, post-operative pain, and nerve pain. Acute muscle strains and injuries are also effectively treated with a combination of cupping and acupuncture.

Women’s Health

Acupuncture is an effective complementary treatment for women’s health conditions including fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, pre-menstrual syndrome, irregular cycles, menopausal symptoms, and infertility. It is also used to support all stages of IVF transfers and healthy pregnancy. Acupuncture is thought to improve fertility by:

  • Regulating the menstrual cycle

  • Improving sperm count and motility

  • Increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs

  • Decreasing stress and anxiety

Chronic Disease Treatment

By addressing blockages in the 14 energy meridians and their associated organs (example liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lungs, large intestines, etc.), acupuncture can help with most chronic diseases. In our Clinic, we treat digestive issues, immune disorders, uro-genital conditions, liver and lung issues, thyroid conditions, skin conditions, and circulatory disorders. Acupuncture is also a potent complementary therapy to cancer treatments and surgery recovery and is offered in many hospitals.

Anxiety & Insomnia

Acupuncture helps reduce anxiety, depression and emotional traumas. It thereby helps with panic attacks, cognition, sleep, and energy levels, significantly improving quality of life. It helps during periods of acute stress and emotional loss. In addition to treating the affected energy meridians, stress management acupuncture also employs auricular (ear) acupoints that are associated with calming the mind, overactive energies, and intense emotional feelings. Acupuncture has been shown to help with insomnia in many clinical trails.

Facial Acupuncture

Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture uses 40–70 ultra-fine, virtually painless needles on acu-points on the face. The needling is shown to boost circulation, stimulate collagen production, and encourage the lymphatic system to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells. Combined with cupping, guasha and facial massage, the treatment enhances complexion, tonifies the muscles, improves elasticity, and reduces signs of aging. It is also profoundly de-stressing and healing to facial nerves and sinuses.
